Common Name: Jungle Val

Vallisneria sp. Gigantea from Asia is an easy plant that grows fast, suitable for large aquariums. In most aquariums the leaves grow so long that they float on the surface (50-150 cm, 2 cm wide). The leaves are tough and strong, so they are not normally eaten by herbivorous fish. Widly used in aquariums with discus or angelfish! A great background plant.

  • Remove the plant from the pot and remove the rock wool and rinse in water. Remove dead leaves. Using aquascaping tweezers, plant in substrate.

As the plant grows it can block light and thus will need regular pruning. Does well in low light and CO2 set ups. Vallisneria americana easily propagates through runners, which are prolific if the substrate is nutritious.
