Common Name: Java Fern

Microsorum pteropus is a water fern from Asia, 15-30 cm tall. The black spots under the leaves are sporangia (reproductive organs), not signs of disease, as many believe. One of the most common and easy to maintain plants in the aquarium hobby.

Note: This plant is not available in the US by Tropica.

  • Remove plant from pot and remove rockwool. Rinse in aquarium water and remove any dead leaves. Because java fern is a epiphyte plant, attach to rock or driftwood with fishing line or a gel based super glue. If you wish to plant in substrate only burry the roots and not the rhizome as this will kill the plant. Like most epyphite aquarium plants, nutrients are taken up from the water column. If you notice the plant is lacking nutrients suppliment with liquid fertelizers.

DO NOT RELEASE PLANTS AND LIVESTOCK INTO LOCAL WATERWAYS.
