Common Name: Japanese crest
Cardamine lyrata is actually a marsh plant from Japan. But it is also a familiar aquarium plant which thrives under water with 20-50 cm long stems. A characteristic trailing growth form makes it highly decorative, and ‘aerial’ roots often form on the plant itself. Also suitable for planting in garden ponds in the summer.
A great beginner friendly plant for the background of your aquascape!
Cardamine lyrata
Remove the plant from the pot and remove the rock wool and rinse in water. Remove dead leaves. Using aquascaping tweezers, plant in substrate.
Plant it in groups, and make sure the water temperature does not exceed 82 degrees F (this makes the leaves much smaller and the plant more leggy). This plant will do well in low light and moderate levels of CO2 injection.
DO NOT RELEASE PLANTS AND LIVESTOCK INTO LOCAL WATERWAYS!
